WHAT IS ACNE?

Typical acne is an inherited disorder of the pores where dead skin cells shed much faster than normal -- it's not your fault! Normal pores shed approximately 1 layer of dead skin cells per day inside the pore. Acne-prone pores shed up to 5 layers of dead skin cells per day, causing buildup. Bacteria feed on this buildup and form blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, pustules, and cysts. This process can take up to 90 days to appear on the surface of your skin.

It’s important to remember that your skin is a detoxifying organ. One of its main jobs is to remove toxins from your body meaning, toxins, pathogens, hormones and emotions can all trigger a detoxification event resulting in acne for those who are prone to it. Everyone has some P. acnes bacteria that live on the surface but not everyone experiences breakouts. That’s why it’s an important part of the clearing process to identify and address the underlying triggers or root causes in addition to treating the surface of your skin.
