Microneedling Post Care Instructions

Microneedling Post Care Instructions

In order to maximize your results and minimize the potential for side effects it’s important that you follow all home care instructions. Unexpected complications may occur if you apply products not proven safe for use with microneedling post treatment.

Immediately after the treatment you will likely experience a sunburn-like effect. Your skin may feel tight, dry or sensitive and you may notice some pinprick bleeding, local swelling and significant redness. Most people prefer not to have social plans the day of a microneedling treatment. Your skin’s natural barrier function will return to normal approximately 4-hours post treatment. However it takes 18-24 hours for the channels opened during the treatment to close.

The first 24-hours after your treatment:

  • Avoid contact with the treated area as much as possible - do not wear a hat, touch your skin, apply sunscreen, wear make-up or use your regular skin care products.

  • Strictly avoid sun exposure as you will not be wearing sunscreen.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise or excessive perspiration, as excess blood flow can cause discomfort and irritation

  • You have been given Skinfuse Lift HG and Skinfuse Rescue Calming Complex which may be applied as needed throughout the first 24-hours to assist with skin hydration and healing. Be sure to wash your hands prior to application to avoid introducing bacteria to the open channels in your skin.

  • Although rarely necessary, if you choose to take a pain reliever, Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is recommended

  • Ideally sleep on your back and use a fresh, clean pillowcase.

Day 1 (18-24 hours) post treatment:

  • The treated area may be pink and mildly inflamed (similar to the appearance and feeling of a mild sunburn) for 24-48 hours following your treatment.

  • Gently cleanse your skin using a mild cleanser and pat dry.

  • You may apply Stem Factor serum from your post-care kit.

  • Continue to use Rescue Calming Complex or Orange Poppy approved skin care as necessary.

  • After 24 hours, use a mineral sunblock (SPF 30 or higher) and wear a hat if you’re outside.

  • If wearing makeup, use only a pressed mineral powder (such as Osmosis pressed base)

The week following your treatment:

  • Gently cleanse and moisturize your skin morning and night or as needed. Avoid active skin care serums such as retinoids and vitamin-c. Wear mineral sunblock (SPF 30 or higher.) Wear a hat if you’re outside.

  • Avoid swimming, strenuous exercises that cause sweating as well as hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms for up to 48 hours.

  • Avoid sun tanning and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight for 2-weeks.

  • In some cases, you may experience slight bruising that can last for 5-7 days and slight swelling for 2-4 days.

  • A professional low-level-light therapy treatment can significantly shorten recovery time. Give us a call 303-544-1537 is this something you would like to schedule to reduce swelling and redness.

  • You may experience skin peeling 3-7 days after your treatment. Peeling, dryness and flaking are due to increased cellular turnover. Gently cleanse away dead skin cells and apply a gentle moisturizer or Rescue Skin Calming Complex.

  • A week after your treatment or when flaking has subsided you may return to your regular skin care routine.

  • Optimum results will be observed 6-months post treatment and your skin will continue to improve for up to a year. Ask your Licensed Esthetician about the best home care routine to maintain your results.

For best results, we recommend follow-up and repeat microneedling treatments every 4-6 weeks, with a series of 3-6 treatments depending on your desired results.
